ROOTED: WEEK 1

Week 1: Rooted in His Love

If I were to ask you to think about a tree, to sit and imagine one, what would your tree look like? what would you imagine? You probably start imagining the leaves, branches, maybe fruit, maybe flowers, and whatever else that your tree would have. Very few of you, if any at all, would imagine the roots of the tree. You see shallow roots of a tree would mean it would not grow very big, produce little, or perhaps not look as beautiful as one with deep roots. A tree can only stand tall and weather the intense storms (big and even small) when it’s rooted deeply.

Paul grasped this concept well when he prayed in Ephesians 3:17–19:

“I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”

Let's pause here, take note really quick of what Paul didn’t pray. He didn’t pray that the believers would be rooted in their success, or in their performance, or even, dare I say, in their good works. Paul prayed that we believers would be rooted in love. But why? Why love Paul? Because love is the foundation of everything God is and all that He calls us to. Love is what roots us to the foundation. But not just any love, His love. When we’re not rooted in God’s love, we try to root ourselves in the approval of the world, our achievements, or the circumstances we find ourselves in—and all of those, 100% of the time at some point will fail you, will crumble, will leave you empty. When we are rooted in God's love, we can find peace and security. His love never runs dry, never withdraws, never wavers. It holds us steady in every season. Remaining constant at all times, in all circumstances, through every valley and on every mountain top.

Maybe today you’re feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders. Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed, unworthy, or unseen in this moment or maybe it's been a season of feeling this way. Let this truth sink deep: You are loved—completely, unconditionally, and eternally. Nothing you do can make Him love you more, and nothing you’ve done can make Him love you less.

I am going to say it again. You are loved—completely, unconditionally, and eternally. Nothing you do can make Him love you more, and nothing you’ve done can make Him love you less.

One more time for you trying to let this one pass right through the brain. You are loved—completely, unconditionally, and eternally. Nothing you do can make Him love you more, and nothing you’ve done can make Him love you less.

Wow. That is the God we serve. The love that we experience in Him.

What area of your life feels like it could crumble right now, and how would it change if you truly believed "I am rooted in God’s love?"

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for loving me with a love that never fails. is unwavering and brings peace that surpasses all understanding. Help me to lay down deep roots in Your love so I can stand firm no matter what comes my way. It is in the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen
